Poor Old Crawley Town...

My Dad just got off the phone to the secretary of the youth club he was chairman of up until this season. Crawley town had written to over 50 local junior clubs inviting them to a presentation on their new youth scheme etc. The Chairman of Crawley was there, the coaches, a first team player, the supporters chairman, 4 councillors and the Major of Crawley. Every club that showed up was given a free season ticket and all it was was a sort of open shop about how Crawley who said they see themselves as the second biggest team in Sussex, could aid the development of youth football in the region. This was all very good, the shambles was that the only club to be represented was the one my dads friend went from. This really is crap because Crawley were offering a lot to any team who put some input in and as a result have given Horsham Sparrows 200 free adult tickets and 200 free junior tickets to their next game and said they will send senior players down to take training etc and also that any player who joins the junior reds supporters club will get a free season ticket.
People round here moan about clubs not helping out youth football and when a club does, and it seems crawley pulled out all the stops tonight..the press was even there, no bugger turns up because they are scared of losing their best players.

Still, nice Crawley know they are only sussex's 2nd club..Id still put them above eastbourne purely for the facilities they have.

PS - They signed Karl Reddy today from Motherwell who oew him 400k in unpaid wages and signing fees and was so impressed with crawley he signed for half of what he wanted.

Crawley are lucky in that they have had a lot of support from the council, because the council needed the land their stadium was on for a leisure development.
