They're getting a 35,000 capacity stadium. Does anyone else feel a tinge of disappointment when they hear this. Not only does it grate that my least favourite club are getting a new ground, but the fact that it's going to be 50% bigger than Falmer (if ours ever gets built) really rubs it in. I've always thought of Pompey and Brighton having similar potential (i.e. both bigger than Southampton) but we're going to look small time even with a 22,500 ground. Even piddly plastic little Reading have got a bigger ground than Falmer. :nono:

Just watched the Millwall playoff game and the commentator said our average attendance for that season was just over 8000. When we nearly made the Premier. I think 22500 is about right. Rather that than the Huddersfield situation where there ground always looks empty.

Football has changed.Reading used to get 4,000 for a home game.I can remember Chelsea getting 12-13,000 in div 1 in the mid 80s and Newcastle getting about the same in the early 90s.look what they get now.I know so many people who have stopped going after the Goldstone went who would start going again if we had Falmer.I think 25-28,000 would be ideal but its a case of any ground will do.

I was just thinking the same, football back in the late 80's, early 90's had poor attendances across the board. It was not just us. Remember that 15 years previous to the play-offs we were getting 33,000 gates. So 15 years after, things have changed again.

I would think that with a good ground, we would get an average of about 16,000 at Falmer, with the potential to grow.

The thing is Portsmouth 2 years ago were getting crap attendances as well...

They need it - there current ground is an absolute shit hole where you can't physically sit down :(

They'll also be in their ground before us no doubt. If nothing else, Pompey council value their football club
