This riddle is killing me, please help!!!! Hello by the way.

3 men (or woman if this helps stimulate the mind) go into a hotel and book a room and are told its £30. The men pay £10 each.

Later, the manager realises it should have been £25 and sends the waiter up to return the £5. On his way to the room the waiter decides to keep £2 and give each of the men £1 each back (meaning they have now paid £9 each).

Now, 3 x £9 = £27. The waiter has £2 which now = £29.

Where has the other pound gone???????

it's sleight of hand, so to speak.

Instead of adding the £2 to the £27 you TAKE IT AWAY leaving the £25 that you do pay.

edit- beat me to it Hansie!

The men pay £9 each. Total = 3 x 9 = £27

The waiter has £2. The hotel has £25 for the room. 25 + 2 = £27.

Basically the waiter is ripping off the guests. I would recommend they never stayed in that place again.

Anyway, why is a waiter dealing with a hotel room bill? It always used to be a restaurant bill, which at least made some sense...

You can do anything with figures. A clothes shop has a sale where everything is 10% off. A £100 suit is reduced to £90. After the sale is over they put 10% back on and the suit is now £99?

Yeah...
down 1 /10
up 1/ 9

would work.

down 1/5 (to 80)
up 1/4 (to 100)

down 1/2 (to 50)
up 1/1 ( to 100)

And that riddle was on countdown.
