We were outmuscled and outfought. Walsall were straightforward with a strong central spine of Ince, who dominated his area and distributed well, Gerrard who was assured and tough, Bradley, who ran midfield with great positioning and support play and Ibhere whose hold up play was exemplary and posed a constant threat (but luckily couldn't finish). Their direct and athletic style meant that Cox and Carole saw little ball and when they did were too easily brushed aside. Neither of them were able to provide any defensive cover for the full backs- it was Carole's feebleness that led to Livermore's error for the first goal. At times it was like playing with 9 men. In the first half in particular only Whing seemed to have the strength or commitment to try to match Walsall's physicality. If we go down we are going to face that sort of formula most weeks and if we don't find a way of dealing with it then next season will be tough.

Welcome, Tewks, nice post but not sure of this bit about playing with nine men....

....after all, didn't Walsall beat us with just 9 men earlier in the season?

Remember that we were up against a Walsall team who ironically beat us with 9 men earlier in the season....

edit: far too slow

Now that was when Micky should have been sacked. We should have read the warning signs then.

I did try and tell you all at the time, Harty even got one of his flunkies to read out my post on SCR after the match, in a very condescending manner and then went on to talk about fans who didn't have a clue :clap2:
