Kuipers - 7 1/2 - Thought he should have done a bit better for goals 2 & 3. Few great saves at the end

Virgo - 6. Bit slow for a right back, think he was asleep for the first goal

Harding - 7, solid game looked good

Butters - 6, good in the air, painfully slow on the floor

Cullip - 7, good battle with roberts, should have done better for the second goal

Mayo - 5, provided absolutely nothing going forward, is not a left winger

Currie - 5 1/2 - Few great cross field balls but never tried once to take the ball past a wigan player.

Nicolas - 8.Thought he was excellent, did all the simple stuff well.

Hinshlewood -5 not a midfied player, tried hard but wasn't able to keep up with the game

malongo - 6, tried hard but didnt overly trouble his markers

Knight - 8, looked lively, caused the opposition trouble when he had the ball, delivered our best crosses

subs

Jarrett - 8 looked incredibly dangerous, ran rings round the opposition, should have started, needs to look to pass a bit more

Robinson - 5. Didnt really get into the game. had a free header which he hesitated cos he thought he was offside.

Overall prognosis - could have been 0-0, could have been 7 -0. Ellington and Roberts were class for wigan, but had we not conceded two avoidable goals either side of half time, we could have sneaked a draw.

Surely a player can play well in a losing team.

Not having seen the game, I can't do ratings, but I thought McGhee made some level-headed assessments on SCR.

He was not getting carried away by Michel's saves because he was unhappy about the third goal. (Not being negative about Michel, who earned us a point last week, but he's had the misfortune to get beaten from 25/30 yards in every game, even Plymouth's first goal came from a 30-yard free kick that he saw late. You have to wonder how Roberts would do).

McGhee praised Hinshelwood, Harding and Mayo. He said Mahe's work up front was his best yet.

He appeared pretty unhappy about the defending for the 2nd goal (falling off the goalscorer) and 3rd goal (poor save).

looking at that line up. take mayo out for jarret. hinshelwood out for carpenter or rodgers. and i think we have the basis of a decent team.

From my other thread

Kuipers 5 (some top class saves at the end, but if he was respomsible for 2 of the three goals, then this doesn't make up for it)

Virgo 5 Not up to the pace today.

Butters 7

Cullip 6

Harding 7 Did nothing wrong and looked like the England experience has given him confidence

Mayo 5 Nothing too wrong, but just no cutting edge or pace.

Currie 5 Very Quiet

Hinsh 6 , closed down well in the first half, tired towards the end.

Nicolas 5 , jumped out of too many tackles, very defensive minded

Molongo 5 Tried hard , to very little affect

Knight 5, had no service, so couldn't play off the back fours shoulders

Subs

Jarrett 6, showed some invention.

Robinson 6, showed you could worry the Wigan back 4

Ref 0 - the man was appauling, not one Albion player or staff shook the mans hand at the end.

put these on another thread, but hinselwood first half was our best player. jarrett was our best player when he came on in second half. nicolas/virgo were our worst players, and kuipers could have done better with all 3 goals. we kept backing off their attackers, and it cost us the first two goals.

i thought nicolas played well

hinshlewood? having a laugh i think

nicolas looked lost, kept getting pushed off the ball on many occassions, also very weedy with his tackles, and didnt make many great passes, hinselwood however made many good tackles, only gave the ball away once or twice, and was a stronger presence.

Kuipers 6 - could take the blame for 2 goals but pull off 3 great saves
Virgo 5 - limited at this level, young and learning.
Harding 7 - best of the back 4.
Butters 6 - ok
Cullip 5 - not at his best
Mayo 5 - not a midfield player.
Currie 5 - never in the game
Nicolas 8 - MOM for us,never gave up.
Hinshelwood 5 - don't see him as a midfield playmaker.
Molango 5 - lost control and didn't show enough.
Knight 5 - not match fit,not his usual sharpness

Subs

Jarrett 7 - ran at defenders and looked good.
Robinson 6 - held up and showed up better then Molango, should start against Bristol Rovers.

Now Ive had some time to think about it:

Kuipers 6 1/2 - I think he could have done better for the last goal but the others he had no chance and was badly let down by his defence

Virgo 5 1/2 - Tried hard with little suppot on the right from Currie

Cullip 5 - Looks well off the pace at the moment, very poor closing down.

Butters 5 - Seriously going to get burnt this season by pacey forwards, was giving their front 2 ten yards as he was worried about their speed. In the end backed off them whenever they had the ball until they had a cup of tea and still lined up their shots.

Harding 7 - best game so far. The fact Teale was so bad might have helped him.

Currie 4 - I really dont rate him at all. Was fed a good ball through at one point and the wigan player caught up 10 yards on him in the time currie had to cover about 5 to get the ball. No good crosses and a very poor header in one of our only chances.

Hinshelwood 5 - Not a central midfielder! Tried though.

Nicolas 7 - intelligent passing and kept it simple. Could be chippy part 2 in the making.

Mayo 5 - would have rather seen him at left back. Good cover for Harding though.

Molango 5 - Poor positional play and 1st touch was poor at times.

Knight 7 - Tried hard, great 1st touch but no one supporting him at all.

Jarret 6 1/2 - looked the best of our players when he was on.

Robinson 6 - when he is on the pitch with Leon we must have the smallest front pair striking force ever registered in pro footy.

Kuipers 5 (saved more goals going in at fault for 2 though)
Virgo 6 (better looking more assured)
Harding 7 (The england call up done him wonders best player)
Butters 6 (looked okay first half)
Cullip 5 (never looked like the DC we know)
Mayo 6 ( Midfield not his position but battled)
Currie 5 (did not get the ball much still looks unfit)
Nicolas 6 (Needs chippy alongside him battled)
Hinshelwood 5 ( jury still out on him sorry)
Molango 5 (tries hard but don't think he will score loads poor first touch)
Knight 6 ( first game looked up for it back but no service)

Subs

Jarrett 7 ( more happened when he came on)
Robinson 6 ( run around not much else i am afraid)

Kuipers 6 - the goals were more the fault of the defence than him.

Virgo 6 - adequate, no more. appeared to feel the pressure of that stupid ref and backed off too often

Butters 5 - ok, but weak

Cullip 5 1/2 - as Butters, but marginally better

Harding 7 - best of an average bunch

Mayo 5 - didn't do enough for the position he was in

Currie 5 - created no pressure at all

Nicolas 5 - as above

Hinsh 5 - as above

Molango 6 - worked hard

Knight 5 - didn't work hard
(how could anyone have put Knight ahead of Molango?)

Jarrett 7 - impressively busy.

Robinson 5 - disappointing, but he wasn't served well, of course

Kuipers - 6 Two mistakes for goals 2 & 3 detract from some quality saves

Virgo - 7 Solid game, at fault for first goal

Harding - 7 No mistakes, passed well despite lack of out let with Mayo in fornt of him.

Butters - 6 Played well against the divisions best strikers

Cullip - 6 see Butters, though had some nervy moments un-cullip like

Mayo - 4 Not all his fault, but out of position

Currie - 5 Some good crosses, but seemed slow and unwilling to run both for and after the ball

Nicolas - 6 Did little wrong but showed little committment

Hinshlewood - 6 Another player out of position who battled well for 45 minutes

malongo - 6 No real service, did not hit it off with Knight

Knight - 7 Looked the most likely to score, given poor service

subs

Jarrett - 7 My first sighting of him. Should have come on earlier. Troubled defenders but it was too late.

Robinson - 5. Sorry, didnt notice him.

Would have brought Jarret on earlier Probably at start of the second half for mayo, and used Hart instead of Robinson.
