Player departures

Anybody else surprised we haven't seen more departures from the first team squad taking into account the signings made ? With the promised additional quality signings we are going to have a very big squad next season even taking into account the fringe players who have left ,the loan of JFC and the Vicente saga. Personally I would like to see the wage bill trimmmed.

Less surprised and more worried, I don't want to see Dicker or Harley so much as sitting on the bench next season let alone playing on the pitch.

None of the players in the squad are so bad that they don't deserve to be here, so I'm not too concerned about any of them. Personally, I don't think we'll be better off with a larger squad, I would prefer a smaller, tighter squad because that should be better for morale, in theory anyway. But we've got a lot of players under contract, it isn't easy to move them on. I'm sure there will be some business done on players going out before long.

If you take two players for every position as the ideal we only really have Ankergren or Brezovan spare as of right now. Perhaps we will see the likes of Sparrow and Harley move on loan during the season if they're not even making the bench.

Bit harsh to be honest. I would expect Gus to want to prove that he was right about Harley and as we are unlikely to attract a decent bid to wipe our faces I reckon he is likely to stay. Dicker is not a liability - except for his habit of giving the ball away right in front of his own defence just as they break out of position - if the defenders just learn to expect it and stay deep a little longer .............

Seriously, I suspect Sparrow is the most likely of the first team squad to leave and possibly Vincelot - not that they have done a lot wrong, just we could maybe attract a bid for each of them and neither seems likely to figure much if at all. Cardiff fans expect their club to come back in for Nooney. Would we let him go? My instinct is we will keep him. Similarly I would not be surprised if Barnes attarcted some interest but I don't think we will let him go.

I'm not too concerned, we need to know who is signing before we can let the others go. The Euro's mean it's a slower summer in terms of transfers but it will start to pick up very soon

Why do you need to see the wage bill trimmed ? Do you even know what the budget actually is ? I seriously doubt that Gus would sign players which would make us over the budget.

Id expect a couple to leave within the month, with possibly a couple more next January.

Think dicker is a decent squad player when fit. Rushed back too soon last season. I guess the niggling worry is he will never fully recover but only time will tell that.

Harley is going to have to really step up his game next season or he will be heading for league one. Wouldn't be surprised if he does. But he may not get too many oppotunities.

Gus won't know who is surplus to requirements until the the end of August and the squad has "gelled". Then we'll see 3 or 4 going out on loan.

I thought contractually wise, at least, next season is the 'clear out'.

I'm not surprised. Our defence was wafer thin last season (Remember start of January?), and strikers were also at a premium so I'm not at all surprised we haven't seen any depatures in those departments. We were always gifted with a lot of midfielders, so to lose Navarro wasn't too much of a surprise.

Vincelot's a good backup player as he can play in so many positions. I can't see Calderon going this season because if I remember correctly we only have him and Bruno for right back.

For people to go, then someone has got to want them. That mean a fee, even if small and matching their wage demands. This could be a problem with the likes of Dicker/Sparrow and especially Harley. We could just be stuck with them.

Ryan Harley can jog on. Which, incidentally, is the fastest speed he can travel.
