I have persuaded Mrs Glover that Plymouth would be a really nice place to visit for our planned long weekend in August. I did once agreement was made throw in that the Albion were by coincidence playing that Saturday afternoon.

Now I need to arrange a hotel/b&b for the Friday & Saturday night in or around Plymouth. Any ideas / names of hotels please and I may see you down there.

Nice one GG, thats exactly what I did. Mrs 80's was fooled again, just like when I suggested that short break in Ireland.

Will be staying Friday and Saturday so checking out accomodation also.

There's loads of places near the Hoe and the Barbican, just don't go to places like Ernesettle or the docks!! Teaching down there was certainly an experience and I wouldn't want to stay there!

GG, Did the same with my young lady for the Div3 promotion match...traveled Friday and stayed in George Hotel( I think that was the name) in the main square of Tavistock...nice hotel and plenty of pubs within easy stroll...20 min drive to Plymouth, easy parking at ground, and back at hotel for dinner within 30 mins of getting out of the car park (1hour)....hey we did get promoted, there were a lot of people celebrating in the ground/car park.
Travelled back Sunday

All in all excellent weekend...and guess what, she wants to do the same again sometime...so I got something right.....

The Barbicans a nice area of the city its got all the nice restaurants and pubs. Its the old part of the town. Don't know much about the accomodation there though. Tavistock is a pretty little country town, and would be nice too for a weekend break.

On a train...
Plymouth is a wonderful place, as is most of Devon and Cornwall!

I'll be staying with my girlfriends parents in St Austell in Cornwall which is less than an hour away from Plymouth on the A38.

But if you stay in Cornwall don't forget the £1 for the Tamar Bridge.

I generally feel Plymouth is a cr*p hole, unlike the rest of Devon and Cornwall. But if do go to Cornwall which is great, remember the roads are slow, very slow and so are the trains.

Mrs VISUT and I will be at the Copthorne Hotel close to the centre of town, near the shopping centre. This could be where the team are staying as well: it certainly was the last time we were there, for the Div. 3 promotion game.

Copthrone is a good place to be, and London Calling I you are soo wrong. I loved living in Plymouth for four years, great place, good nightlife, wonderful scenery, top beaches and countryside close by. Plus I lived in a quality area of Plymouth called Mutley.:lolol:

Just checked the Copthorne. Looks a bit too nice for the likes of me. Doubles rooms available at £70 per night. Think I'll look for summit a bit cheaper.

I stayed at the Grand when I went to my Graduation, that's quite plush but not cheap. there is a youth hostel which is dirt cheap, I stayed there when I went to my university interview and it's ok, or rather was ten years ago.

Myself and my mate Pat will be saving our pennies for a campsite somewhere on Dartmoor - can get into Plymouth in about 30 mins. A load of us used to stay down there for the week when we were teenagers, going on ghost hunts whilst bladdered, that kind of thing. Good days. So we'll be reliving our youth for one night only.........

Anywhere down on The Hoe is nice to stay at.

There are some nice B & B's there.

Steer clear of Union Street
