I had the pleasure of spending a long (golfing) weekend with him in Portugal, some 20 years ago. Boy, he knew how to put his drink away and absolutely detested Sky, so we had plenty in common!

He often stayed at the Brickwall Hotel in Sedlescombe and would come over to my pub with his wife for a meal. Spent many an afternoon with them, a truly lovely couple. His wife was very funny, she was a JP and would tell some great stories.
