If it wasn't for testing on animals, we'd never have had any standards for what is the maximum safe dosage on any product - LD50 testing isn't done on humans...

Testing on animals is, well, the only thing that can be done other than testing on humans. And I think going to 3rd world countries and rounding up people to test on is a tad more serious than testing on rats.
