Which of these major tournaments do you think was the best? Which one do you remember most fondly?

For me it has to be World Cup Italia 90. From the opening ceremony with Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma, Roger Milla's goals for Cameroon, Platts winner v Belgium and Gazza's tears the whole tournament moved me immensley. Truly the greatest World Cup during my lifetime. But England should have won it!

P.S Only tournaments involving England included.

Euro 96 no doubt about it.

The atmos round the country was superb, whooping the dutch, getting very drunk, jumping up and down in a busy pub getting covered in lager when England scored :clap2:

Euro 96. I was 15 and at welsh camp with the school. We were allowed to watch the England V Germany match on TV and it was the best atmosphere I have ever seen.

Close 2nd has to be England 5 - Germnay 1!!!!!!:clap2:

Spain 82 was my first major tournament that I was old enough to fully appreciate. I have memories of Euro 1980 but it was just a terrible flop.

I'd been watching enough football to be knowledgable, and starting going to Brighton games, but that World Cup was just magical. the Brazilians were superb to watch and I cried when Italy knocked them out. Bloody Paolo Rossi, the little cheat.

Euro 1996.The Holland game was one of the best I've ever seen.

Can't believe England didn't win the whole thing though as there's no doubt we were the best team in it.

Aaaah the summer of '96. I spent two years paying for tickets for every game at Wembley, including the final, so I saw every England game. That game against Holland was possibly my finest experience at a football match, absolutely fantastic. Lost my voice for days after that one from all the shouting.

Also remember Italia '90 fondly - the Beeb captured the mood perfectly with 'Nessun Dorma', which is still related to football today in many people's minds, so effective was the marriage between it and the football.

Shit final though - Christ that was boring. Only livened up by the Argies having men sent off and the sight of Maradona in tears - we'd have beaten that lot comfortably if we'd got through.

It's got to be World Cup 90, that was when I really got the football bug, despite having been a regular at the Goldstone for a couple of years prior to that.

Such excitement. Platt's winner against Belgium. Lineker's equaliser against Germany. The Cameroon game. And GAZZA!!!

:)
