Over British Steel

That's going to p**s off lots of MPs who broke up for their Easter Holidays on Tuesday.
Looks like they're going to nationalise it. Looks like it's going to be necessary to nationalise it too. The world is turning.

I'd be encouraging the UK production of coking coal to supply it too.

We absolutely should be looking to make strategic investments in industries like steel in order to keep them in the UK. Longer term and beyond any one, two, three, four etc Governmental terms should be the priority and we really ought to have been making these investments a decade or two ago. Whatever the short term cost, the country will be much better off in the longer term.

They will have to sack Ed Milibrain first as he cancelled the new coal mine intended to produce coking coal.

Fingers crossed!

For clarity, I am not pro-coal as a major energy source (nasty smelly stuff), but I am pragmatic enough to recognise that it will continue to have some uses where it cannot be replaced, and I think it is environmentally and economically the responsible thing to use our own resources rather than importing it.

They will channel a huge amount into the plant to update the blast furnaces then sell it off cheap to there buddies in the City, who will run it into the ground taking huge bungs, dividends and bonuses and then plead with the government for subsidies and bailouts, because that hasn't happened before (Thames water, Eastern Railway etc)

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he will seek to pass a law in one day to give the government power to secure the future of steel-making at British Steel's Scunthorpe plant.
