Parents of young Albion fans - NSC 'lite' for your little ones?

It's been put to me that for some of our younger fans there is nowhere for them to converse with similar-aged, like-minded youngsters.

Recognising the obvious dangers of a pool of impressionable children being online, we would need safeguards in place.

If you are a parent and have young kids that may like to be able to talk to other Albion kids online, how would you feel about the following setup...

1. An existing NSC parent would have to request an account for their child. (We could, say, only make this available to users who have been registered for more than 6 months).

2. A child account is then created and sent to the parent to pass to their child when appropriate.

3. The 'child' accounts would only have access to a single 'kids' forum. That forum would be invisible to all other NSC users including guests (ie those not logged in).

4. Child accounts would not be able to use the PM facility and would not be able to send or receive emails via NSC. This means all discussions between the kids would have to take place in 'public' via the board.

5. If required, parents of children with NSC accounts could have read access only to the kids forum, in order they could further police their youngsters if they wished.

We could try and get the club involved, if they are willing, with an 'Ask Gully' type thing.

Is there any mileage in this?

Thoughts appreciated please.

Not that I have a kid (that I know of) but I think it sounds good. The only problem I could see with it having enough kids to make it worth while. If you can get the numbers then I think it would work.

I think it's a good idea. Buy in from the club is, in my opinion, key to it's success. Stuff from gullys gang and the like could draw young fans to the site and once there they can chat away. Especially useful for younger fans who don't live near other Albion fans, I'd think.

Out of curiosity, what's to stop kids from registering on or just viewing NSC as it is?

Nothing, but nothing on here would interest them.
And as a parent i would not want him here currently becuase of the "adult discussions" and dialogue.

would be happy for Danny seagull to be a mod though:lolol:

I think this is a great idea. My 11 year old son has a NSC account but I am fearful of some of the threads on the main board. I would think he would like this for sure.

Great idea and testament to yr commitment, Bozza.

My 12 yo might be interested, but you are talking about an agegroup that expects to be able to play MW2 by rights. So they might think NSClitr is a bit 'youthclub'. I agree it's much more likelyto work if club is on board. Could get real loyalty if there's a bit of 'what's's in it for me?' for the kids.

Their parents, if they have any common sense, and wish to shield their kids from f***ing swearing, and gratuitious sexism - whole threads about Gemma Atkinson's TITS and the like.

I can't remember the last time there was an adult discussion on here, eg one that didn't turn into childish arguments lol.

One might be forgiven for thinking it's full of kids anyway half the time.

Great idea, Bozza. Think it would be really beneficial to both the kids and the club. If only my little boy was a little older (still can't believe he's TWO in a fortnight, though!!!)

The club are currently in the process of building a new YS website, part of this will include chat/networking functionality. It will ONLY be open to YS members, with permission from parents. It is due to launch next spring/summer.

Would wonder if kids that have had an account created for them by their parent would get a little nosey (which we know they do), and then want full access and try and register for the main forum. Which face it, any 8yrs + would probably be able to do. Darn kids.

I think it would only really work if it was called something else, and completely away from NSC, with a different domain name. So they can continue to be oblivious to the world of "adult" NSC.

But it's a good idea to get them involved somehow.

There's certainly a need for somewhere for our kids to have a chat about all things Albion with other kids, or else it's just prem chat with their school mates for most of them. My 10 yr old would certainly welcome it.

Really good to see the response from Insider  The club really HAS to be on board if this is going to work.
