According to Sky Sport Crystal Palace are in talks to buy Kily Gonzalez and one other player from Inter Milan. Inter say they 'expect further contact from Crystal Palace regarding the player'.

Another Lombardo esque coup for the Summers?

I remember my Palace supporting brother and his mate wearing Lombardo 'wigs' to games. He looked a muppet but hes is 6ft 7 so I did not tell him.

Gonzalez is one half of a planned double swoop

Crystal Palace are plotting a double swoop for two of Inter Milan's top South American players.
Boss Iain Dowie is ready to pay £6m for Argentinian midfielder Kily Gonzalez and Uruguayan defender Gonzalo Sorondo.

Inter spokesman Paolo Vignano confirmed: "There has been telephone contact with Crystal Palace over Gonzalez and Sorondo.

"We expect there to be more contact after we have played our Champions League qualifying match on Tuesday."

Palace lie bottom of the Premiership after two games and Dowie is keen to avoid a long winter of struggle by bringing four new players in before the transfer window closes.

Gonzalez has been at the Olympic Games in Athens representing Argentina.

The tricky winger made 21 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri last season after four years at Valencia, where he was a huge hit.

Sorondo joined Inter for the start of the 2001-2002 season in which he made 11 appearances.

After injuries hampered him during the 2002-3 campaign, he spent most of last term out on loan to Standard Liege in Belgium.

I'm obviously alone in finding it really depressing that Palace are able to even consider signing some of the players being talked of :( Reminds me of when we could compete on a level footing and were normally a better and more talented team.

I think it goes to show the vast financial gains from a year in the premiership and the gamble that chairmans make to try and stay in it. Palace know how much they will earn from sky and I assume are spending this in advance. I don't know what their finances are like but £6M plus high wages is a lot of money

This is seriously bad news for Palace imo, and a total hark back to the last time they were in the Prem and spent a fortune on past it highly paid players with no experiance of the English game.

The result then was that they almost went bankrupt. Trust me these signings will not keep them up, and then theyll be screwed with huge wages, its a Bradford waiting to happen!
