With a large pitch of salt that’s how most of us judge it…but in a marketing way it seems to have moved a lot of shirts, in fact I saw one being worn in the Stirling arms a couple of Sundays ago that made me smile.

BTW The Stirling arms does a cracking Sunday lunch.

No I am 40 years to old to wear a modern football shirt, although when going to games I do have a couple or retro 50s and 70s shirt, but I would never wear a football shirt outside a football match.

The lad I saw was 18 to 25 ish I would guess.

But I will add my son in his late 20s who we were visiting , also owns one of those shirts and it was him who pointed it out to me as I would have not given a second glance , as I said it went down well with the kids, which I guess was the point of it ?

OK, thanks for your honesty. I'm wondering if this line gets repeated enough that the idea takes hold a bit. Not fishing here, but I have read a few accounts of how the 1861 date was arrived at and I have to say I would be feeling more than a touch of embarrassment if it was my club. Is it fair to say it's been greeted with a shrug of the shoulders then?

So if Brighton next season go back to their normal 10th to 15th placing is that going to make you dull and boring ? There is a few people on this board who maybe setting themselves up to look a bit silly.

I expect the number of games to hit us in the league as it does all of the clubs that compete in Europe and are not Manchester City so could easily finish outside top 10 (our hope is obviously we don’t but that will be down to how squad copes with the volume).

However one thing it will not be is dull and if we continue to play the football we saw last season then we are in for another treat this season. It could all eventually come to an end but the club has been working towards this for years with a strategy and ambition to get here and clear succession plans at all levels.

I guess this is where I see the difference we have been working on delivering the long term vision and strategy of the club backed by the smart investment by our owner and are now reaping the rewards. As an outsider looking at palace it all feels very short term and unplanned with little ambition and doing just enough. If we had been promoted that season instead of you and had all that extra PL investment I would be seriously pissed as a Brighton fan if Palace had come up and stormed ahead of us on and off the pitch like Brighton have.

What I don't understand (unless it was bullshit) is why he hasn't agreed the £200k a week contract that was offered to him at Palace. If he was waiting for a better offer (Saudi, I assume), would he not have lined that up instead by now?

I can't believe we haven't pointed out that the first recorded games BHA played in were in 1066. Just after winning at Stamford Bridge we lost at home to some French team full of Normans.

Some interesting observations here.

Yes Roy probably is the best option right now, hopefully taking Paddy under his wing and showing him the ropes until he can take over on his own.

Loz made a good comparison with our friends at Charlton, who became too big for their boots and wanted to push on to the next level, so got rid of Curbishley, and have gone downhill ever since

What is the expectation now for Brighton? After qualifying for Europe, does that mean the target is more than just staying up each season, like the other 12 or 13 clubs? Is a place in the Premier League now a given now, like a Spurs or Chelsea? Is it all about pushing on now, and always looking up rather than down?

Just curious, as I do read a lot here saying how far behind you have left us.

I think aiming for a top 10 finish realistically. Chances of infiltrating the top 6 again next season without Mac Callister and Caicedo and with Chelsea and Liverpool bound to improve are very slim, especially with the extra fixtures.

Don't think anyone outside of the 'big 6' and the Saudis can genuinely say they're 100% not going to be in a relegation battle.

Of the 'big' sides, I can see Liverpool pushing City this season with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai in the middle, two exceptional additions.

Palace wanted to get Hodgson in so he can start preparing the squad for the new season.

So far that new squad is + Lerma and - Zaha.

In the news of Roy's appointment, he does say that the target is a top half finish, which I would happily take now. Who knows, Wilf could become his first signing! At least IF he does sign again, I believe we would lose the sell on clause to ManUre from when he returned

As for the 1861 thing, I have to say I dont really care, it was all way before my time. It does look tenuous, but the HF have included it in their songbook. The 3rd kit from 2021-22 based on the 1861 kit sold really well, so maybe the marketing men know something after all
