Was it just me or did paints completely command the left side with ease tonight? He closed their right wing down completely.

I read some pretty harsh comments about him not being able to step up to the championship. He was awsome tonight, and all too often goes unnoticed.

What a game tonight, just got back to my hotel in Bristol and still got 'we're f@cking brilliant' ringing through my head!

And we are......

I've always rated Painter highly. It was his birthday today so was a double celebration for him. Apparently he wound up the Cardiff fans. Did you see what he did exactly?

He played on loan I think to Swansea.

We were in the far corner so view of his position wasn't that great. he seemed to wind them up in the second half, not too sure but think it was messing around with throw in. Did anyone else see?

He was their captain when they won league 1 I believe. Was their player and not on loan though - pretty sure he played CB for them in the championship and probably couldnt quite cut it there which is why we were lucky enough to get him!

He used to play for us when we won promotion from League one, he then had a horrible injury and didnt really get another chance. I believe he done the 'Swim away' action tonight to the Cardiff fans which really winds them up, good on you Painter!

He goaded the Cardiff fans by simulating swimming (like a swan) in the 2nd half. The fans got on his back and seconds later he was booked.

The swimming motions tend to wind up the Cardiff fans as I believe this is a reference to an incident some years ago when the Swansea fans chased the Cardiff fans in to the sea.

Swansea shout 'swim away' to Cardiff..

I have been a little concerned with Painter this season but he looked a lot better saturday and sounds like he did well last night.Hope he adapts because he was superb last season.

He played at CB and left back for Swansea the season they went up (and played their final game at Withdean). He was absolutely pivotal in that side. Played in the Championship but was very badly injured and other players came in as cover. Swansea were reluctant to let him go but understood that his priority was to play football again now that he was fit after a long layoff - so they allowed him to move. Still held in very high regard by the Swansea team and a proven Championship player. Not the fastest as we all know but makes up for that by his positional sense. Always where he needs to be which is why his game looks so unfussy. And at 25 - the best is still to come.

They mention this on the Cardiff forum, one person is getting all precious about it. They were reminded that he only did it after a load of 'You Jack bastard' chants were aimed at him.
