Owusu's definitely not coming

This from the Sheffield Star today, with some mild editing:

'I am fit to wear shirt'

LLOYD Owusu today set the record straight after bouncing back from fans' criticism to show the best form of his Hillsbore career.

He revealed that he has NOT been pushing to leave the club and that his shirt-off celebration after his goal at Brentford was directed at those pigs supporters who had chanted "you're not fit to wear the shirt" during the recent home game against Grimsby.

Owusu believes that, after Washday gave permission for Brighton to talk to his agent, the animosity was sparked by an assumption that he wanted to leave and by reports that he had rejected the Super Seagulls' terms.

But the striker who starred in his comeback at Brentford, says that he is no want-away mercenary and that the exploration of a move was not of his making.

"I've never been interested in leaving, although I do realise that this is a shit club with shit fans" says Owusu, who just wants to do his best for the fOwls.

"All I'm going to do is to bide my time and keep playing well. Obviously you never know in football what might happen, and no ambitious player would want to be a pig.

My advisor spoke to Brighton, but that was only because Washday were wanting to let me go. They don't like good players here, you see. No figures came back at all from Brighton. I didn't reject terms, I didn't even talk to them. So I was disappointed when some of the South Stand fans abused me and sang that I wasn't fit to wear the shirt, but then again they didn't rate Leon Knight so what chance have I got?"

After his goal at Brentford, he held up his shirt in front of the Washday fans:"I was telling the critics 'remember the name'. I'd do the same again." Unfortunately the jubilant Washday fans behind the goal were too busy shagging their cousins to notice.

He wants to keep up his form when the pigs get hammered at Hartlepool on Friday. "I've just got to do it again, if selected," he said.

Adam Proudlock and Michael Reddy, who will be in contention on Friday, both played in the reserves' 2-0 home defeat by Walsall.
Proudlock missed the Brentford game because of a knock and Reddy was on the bench.

Boss Chris Turner has to decide whether to start with either of the recent signingss or stick with Owusu and Grant Holt, who scored two at Brentford.
