Didn't know Chesterfield were building one (God knows they need it) but they're apparently planning to start building shortly. Looks a bit Lego if you ask me:

Cardiff is nearly finished- this photo is pretty old, but I think you can see where they're headed, ie an exact replica of Leicester, Swansea, Middlesbrough, Darlington etc. Can't help feeling it's a shame that football clubs will happily chuck money at players but can't be bothered to invest a little in trying to create something architecturally impressive.

Any other clubs currently building?? Not including us, obviously...

I like Saltergate a lot, it's everything a football ground should be - with terraces and a short walk from the town centre.

There was an article in a recent magazine (from the Football Supporters Federation) and it commented on how sad it was to see old unique grounds demolished and replaced by these identikit stadiums. It singled out Brighton as a club prepared to do something a little bit different.

One big plus for Cardiff is that the new ground is very very close to the old ground so people will not have to change a match day routine when they move to the new ground.

I've been to Cardiiff a couple of times recently and parked immediately outside the new stadium whilst attending a rugby international earlier this month.

The stadium looks absolutely horrible, even makes the adjoining Asda look good.

Driving up from Penarth/Dinys Powys towards the M4 (A48?) you get a good view of it alongside the Millenium Stadium - absolutely no comparison.

Yuk, no thanks.

i was at the galpharm (mcalpine) stadium the other day and even at 15 years old it is one of the most impressive pieces of contemporary architecture in the country.

it won the RIBA building of the year in 1995, and today still looks stunning.

it is sad how football continues to snub aesthetic qualities to improve their own business case ... across the board from club branding, new logos, stadiums and kit design - it's generally shite.

i was sad when the new plans for falmer weren't as impressive as the originals, and it won't be the new 'wow' stadium in the country (hudds will hold onto that for a long time, with the emirates, wembley and the stunning city of manchester all running close), but at least it's a bit special, with the transparent roofing sure to be it's most impressive feature.

Indeed, they've been crunched

nice looking stadium tho.

Can someone explain to me what the 'tail' of that stadkum actually is? I've seen those photos before and I just can't understand it.

Most of the modern grounds are crap though. I don't understand why clubs don't try different things, or try and recreate some of the classic stadium looks but incorparating the new safety measures a facilities that mean we need to all-seaters in the first place.

The grass on the roof?;)
I thought as much. Not exactly a big deal is it? Less steel as well so how can the previous poster get his knickers in a twist over something so trival? It's still a fanstastic looking ground and beats most bowls or identity kits.
I'd rather not have a grass roof to be honest. You wouldn't get a feel of it being a football stadium would you?

this may seem a small change to you, but in terms of blending in with the surrounding area as opposed to massive grey metal sheets, it could be the difference between an award winning stadium and 'just brighton's new ground'.

of course, i am overjoyed to the point of nausea that we're building a ground and would've been over the moon with a colchester style effort, but as somebody who is passionate about design i was saddened that the original plans have not been followed through.
