OT new cordless drill

Hi, mrs is buying me a cordless drill for my birthday next month as my old one is knackered to say the least. She's given me £200 as a budget. Will only be used for DIY, so needs to be a hammer drill as well as a driver. Seen a few De Walt on eBay fitting budget but not sure which battery type is best.

You want Lithium, do not get anything smaller than that. Do not be fazed by cheap prices at Screwfix either, these are lesser specced models than others and I cannot count how many times people have told me their deal from screwfix wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Makita LXT453RFX is the one you want!

Don't worry it only has one battery, this lasts a full day in trade use, and even if it dies it only takes 22 minutes to charge.

Also I don't recommend recent DeWalt Cordless Machines, not all they are cracked up to be! The rep even said so

Depends. Know what you are buying.

How have you found the hammer on your cordless? Personally I think you need at least two drills - a decent cordless and a 2kg SDS hammer drill, otherwise the cordless gets ruined by heavy work.

silly arse, ive got spare one. have that for a tenner and spend £190 on trifle bakewells

Ok. Out of interest, which part of the spec is lower, and what are you comparing to at a similar price? Of course the 3 speed models are better, but a fair bit more expensive, and maybe unnecessary for a DIYer.

You get a 3 year Guarantee with Milwaukee when you register the product but like you say ,they are a bit excessive for D.I.Y use.

I would be tempted with the ebay deal if there's no problem registering.

My only experience of Milwaukee is with clutched corded drills. I've never been happy with the hammer action on a non SDS cordless, but maybe the Milwaukee is even good in that respect.

The Milwaukee was on eBay from the link earlier in this thread. Ended up going cheaper with a jcb( ) 20v lithium with 2 batteries for £85 from b&q as I just couldn't justify £200 for something that I'll only use maybe 10 times a year. Have put some shelves up and had a bit of a play with it and I'm really impressed with its power, battery life and quality
