Oldham's problems have been well documented, and whilst I am happy they have survived, all the aggro must increase our chances of a result on the opening day of the season.

The next away game is at Barnsley......where this is going on....

"Assistant boss Ronnie Glavin has conceded Barnsley's pre-season plans have been wrecked by off-the-field problems.

The Tykes are barred from playing friendlies and are unable to make any signings as new owner Sean Lewis attempts to convince the Football League that he has the funds to take the club forward.

"It's put us behind and caused a few problems - there's no doubt about that," former fans' favourite Glavin said.

"We must start building up towards match fitness soon, time is not on our side.

"We've only been able to play one behind-closed-doors game, although we've got one or two lined up next week.

"But we really do need to play in proper games - that's the only way to build towards a cutting edge."

If everything had been normal Oldham and Barnsley away would have been two of the toughest fixtures so this can only help us.

Early fixtures often throw up freak results, so I'm not too confident. Last season anyone or the 3rd div championship year, was it three defeats out of 4 or something similar?
