Brighton & Hove Albion striker Bobby Zamora expressed his delight at surpassing Peter Ward’s goalscoring tally for the club, after netting in the 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. The 35-year-old’s 82nd goal in two separate spells for the Seagulls moved him up to fifth in the all-time goalscorers’ list, but was more focused on helping Albion end their recent dip in form.Bobby Zamora

He told SeagullsPlayerHD, “It’s nice [to break the record], but it’s just pleasing to get the three points, which were much needed.
*
“The more points you get on the board, the more of a chance you have to get promoted.
*
“There’s a long way to go and still plenty of twists and turns along the way from everybody in the division, but it’s an important three points.
*
“We knew that the run couldn’t continue forever. There are always going to be blips along the way; that seems to be our blip and it’s all about having the character to come back.
*
“We pulled up our sleeves and it wasn’t a pretty game. They didn’t make it easy, they’re a team that works hard and they made it hard for us too. But we matched them and got the result we wanted.”

The striker praised the work ethic of the whole team following the result and highlighted the importance of keeping a first defensive shut-out since Boxing Day.
*
“The lads at the back, the central midfielders, the wingers, everybody put in a shift and we got a well-deserved three points.
*
“The back four were brilliant in dealing with the number of throw-ins and balls that came into the box. To keep a clean sheet is tremendous.”
*
Zamora is now keen to cement his place in the starting line-up, but says he is still happy to make an impact from the bench if required.
*
“That’s the plan [to start more games], but the manager is in charge, he picks the team and whoever he chooses is fine by me.”[h=3]ALBION V HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
