Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton reflected on his England under-20 debut against Romania on Friday, keeping a clean sheet as the Three Lions triumphed 6-0.
Walton played the full 90 minutes for Aidy Boothroyd’s side in Telford, in what was one of the quieter games in his fledgling career to date.He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was quite hard in the first half because they were quite difficult to break down, but I didn’t have a lot to do.
“Once we got the first couple of goals early on in the second half, their heads went down and it allowed us to get the third, fourth, fifth and sixth goals.
“From my point of view it was still a hard game because you’ve got to stay focused and be ready at all times as they might have a shot from distance which you have to be switched on for. Those games can be harder, so you have to keep talking to the back four.”

The 18-year-old is now aiming to cement his place in the under-20 set-up and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Jake Forster-Caskey and Solly March by appearing in the prestigious under-21 Toulon Tournament next summer.He also feels that the time spent being in around the Albion first-team squad has only enhanced his international prospects.
“I’ve settled into the England set-up well since moving up from the under-19s to the under-20s and I've had some positive feedback, which has only helped my confidence.
“There’s a big games programme coming up which is good and it would be amazing to be involved in the Toulon Tournament next summer. My aim is to get into that squad, but beforehand I just want to stay involved and keep progressing throughout the season.
“It has helped me playing with Championship players that gets the best out of me in the training sessions.
“When you go to England you feel confident about yourself knowing you’ve been training with quality players at Brighton. Hopefully I’ll also get a few more England games under my belt now.”
