Albion will face Cardiff City in the qualifying round of the inaugural Under-21 Premier League Cup.The brand new competition will see the Seagulls host the Welsh side at Culver Road, Lancing in a 7pm kick-off on Monday 28th October.
U21 coach Simon Ireland believes the new tournament will provide a fresh challenge for his group, telling seagulls.co.uk, “It gives the lads something different and competitive as well as the league.
"The FA Youth Cup is a stellar competition which most of the players would have played in for the Under-18s, so they are looking for this tournament to replicate that success and the hope is for all the best young players to be on show.”
Meanwhile, the Under-21s were in action against Coventry City in a behind closed doors friendly today, losing to an experienced Sky Blues side 3-0.
First-team members Mathieu Manset and Adam Barton gave the hosts a 2-0 advantage before Billy Daniels added a third against a youthful Seagulls line-up.
Ireland’s side return to league action next Monday at Culver Road when they face Brentford, 7pm kick-off, as they look to maintain their 100 per cent record in the Professional Development League.
