Fenelon ‘80Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s were beaten 2-1 by Derby County at St George’s Park.
*
Interim coach Simon Rusk named five changes to the side that were beaten by Stoke City last Friday, naming Christian Walton in goal and under-18 forwards James Tilley and Jordan Maguire-Drew upfront alongside Shamir Fenelon.
*
Albion had the first chance of the game inside the opening ten minutes, as Bradley Barry shot from distance but did not trouble Kelle Roos in the Derby goal.
*
The hosts then broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Callum Guy shot into the bottom corner from Kwame Thomas’s ball across the box before doubling their lead four minutes later, as Shaquille McDonald’s initial shot was saved by Walton before rebounding off Thomas and into the net.
*
McDonald and then Johnny Russell had further chances to extend the Rams’ advantage, but the score-line remained at 2-0 going into half time.

The Seagulls started the second half brightly as Jesse Starkey curled a trademark free-kick over the bar, before Robin Deen fired another effort off-target.
*
But the hosts continued to create chances of their own, with Jamie Hanson shooting over Walton’s goal after some good work by Charles Vernam on the right-hand side.
*
Stephen Warnock then forced Walton into a superb save before Fenelon fired home from distance on 80 minutes to give the Seagulls a glimmer of hope, but Rusk’s side were unable to find an equaliser in the remaining ten minutes.
