Brighton & Hove Albion’s under 18s began their play-off campaign with a goalless draw away at West Ham United on Saturday.Dylan Barnett had the first opportunity of the game when heprovided an excellent cross from the left-hand side, but his whipped delivery was nodded narrowly wide by Ragnar Mar-Larusson.
The Hammers’ first real chance to take the lead came when Jamal Hector-Ingram headed over from close-range after meeting an inswinging free-kick from the left.
The home side went closer moments later though, as an unusual amount of backspin on the ball meant it evaded Bailey Vose, giving Martin Somvelsen possession with just the keeper to beat. However, Jamie Horncastle’s excellent recovering run enabled him to block the forward’s effort on the line.
The closest attempt of the game came when Jordan Maguire-Drew shot from 45-yards out and required an outstanding fingertip sace from Sam Howes to prevent Albion taking the lead in spectacular fashion.

A quieter second period followed, with the Seagulls edging the better of the opportunities to break the deadlock. Connor Pring tried an ambitious effort of his own, but watched his powerful shot go over the bar, before another good delivery from the left found Ragnar Mar-Larusson, but his header was blocked at close-range by Howes. The stalemate ends Albion’s recent run of defeats, and provides some positives to build on next week when they continue their play-off campaign against Leicester next week.
