Simon Rusk

Simon Rusk believes his side deserved more after Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-18s were beaten 2-1 by Reading on Saturday.Sam Smith and an Andrija Novakovich penalty put the Royals 2-0 up at half-time, before Jordan Maguire-Drew netted a superb consolation strike in the second half.
Ragnar Mar-Larusson then had a golden opportunity to level the scores, but Rusk’s side left empty handed.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “Unfortunately there were a couple of individuals errors which cost us two goals and affected the result.
“Reading put us under a lot of pressure in the first half, but they didn’t really carve out many goalscoring opportunities other than the two they scored.
“We said at half-time that if we win the second half then we won’t be too far away from being able to get something out of the game in terms of a result.
“We scored through a bit of individual brilliance from Jordan to get to 2-1 and then we had two or three more chances to get back into the game."

Rusk also believes fatigue may have played a factor in the defeat, but feels his side were not far off their usual standards on the day.“Performance-wise, it wasn’t up to our recent displays, but we weren’t a million miles away. I think the boys looked a bit leggy so maybe that’s something to look at, but we weren’t far away from getting a result.
“We’ve had a couple of good results and now we’ve had a bit of a setback in terms of the result on Saturday, but it's not too disheartening from a performance point of view.
“Four games in we’ve now won two and lost two and in general the performances have been quite good, so the boys deserve a lot of credit.”
