Mauricio Taricco said that Saturday’s late win over Hull City will need to be backed up with another three points against Blackburn tomorrow night if the Seagulls are to put sustained pressure on the play-off places.
Rovers sit just one place below the Seagulls and two points behind, but the Argentinean felt there is extra impetus when playing the sides immediately around them in the league.
Taricco told seagulls.co.uk, “If we want to get into the play-offs we have got to follow Saturday up with a win tomorrow night. It's massively important for us, especially because it’s another team in the situation like us.
“There is no question that if we want to nick a place in the play-offs it’s all about winning until the end of the season.
“We are close but teams in the play-offs are having a bad run so we have got to expect them to go on a good run at some point. It’s up to us and there are still a lot of games to go. We still need to become more consistent in terms of results, not so much performances.”
Albion kept their first clean sheet in the league since New Year’s Day on Saturday and former Spurs defender Taricco has warned the defence against in-form striker Jordan Rhodes on Tuesday night, who has scored nine goals in his last nine league games.
“Jordan is scoring for fun. We have got to be very good in defence but also he is a very good player so it’s a challenge for the defenders to try and be better than him, to keep him quiet.
“It’s not only him though because they have got a quality squad but he is the main one because he is scoring almost every game.
“We always try to be organised and to do the basics, then sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn’t.
“We will try to do pretty much the same as we did at Blackburn but hopefully we can dominate a bit more down here. They are a very good team though. It’s about performing on the day and making the correct decisions during the game.”
