The Albion boss felt the game was heading for another frustrating draw until the Scottish striker’s telling contribution with a deft chip over Peterborough keeper Robert Olejnik.Poyet told seagulls.co.uk, “We needed quality and Dobbie showed us what he is capable of and that won us the game. It was real quality and that’s what we needed to score tonight.
“On another day, another player would have smashed that and it would not have gone in. The touch was magnificent and we are all delighted. He was desperate to prove a point and he deserved the goal.
“We took risks by bringing on Dobbie, [Will] Hoskins and [David] Lopez because there was only one outcome for us. We had to go and win the game and sometimes you need to take risks to get the rewards.”
Poyet was also proud of his side’s patient build-up rather than opting for a direct route during the closing minutes of the game, which looked like heading for a stalemate.
“We kept passing the ball right until the end tonight and that was key for me. Because of that we won the game, and we kept a clean sheet which was so important too.
“When we are running out of time it’s easy to kick the ball long but that is not us. We all need to keep calm, believe in what we do and not panic.
“We had about 15 corners and didn’t head one of them because we don’t have the players for the long-ball game. If we do kick it long we will lose the header, we are not good at winning the knock-downs and the opposition will win the ball then break.
“There were some nervous people in the stadium tonight but we must all believe in our way of playing because it’s our best way of winning games. We now need to try and build on this win and let’s see if we can go on a good run.”
