Gus Poyet was impressed by the reaction of goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak who made some terrific saves to keep Albion in the game at Ewood Park.
Those saves were rewarded when David Lopez salvaged a point with the last kick of the match, and Poyet felt that Kuszczak’s performance spoke volumes for his character, just three days after making a rare error at Birmingham City.
Poyet told seagulls.co.uk, “It was not one of our best games but we got a point. The players kept believing right until the end and we probably played our best football during the last ten minutes, so it was nice to get the point.
“I’m very pleased for Tomasz though and I learned a lot about him tonight. I know him but I know him doing the right things. I didn’t know Tomasz after making a mistake and I’m very pleased with the way he reacted tonight. He concentrates very hard and he made two great saves which could have cost us if they went in.
“He was catching the ball and punching very well with one hand when he had to. It was a good learning experience for me with Tomasz and I’m very pleased with him.”
Both goals in the game arrived courtesy of penalties and the Albion boss praised the referee’s assistant for make the decisive and correct decisions.
“I didn’t see the incident that led to their penalty during the game but I’ve seen it since and it’s a penalty. It changed the game but it certainly was a penalty.
“We were always chasing the game after that but we got the equaliser which was another penalty, and another correct decision. It was as clear as the first one so the linesman made two good decisions. Fair play to him for making them.
“We’ve had so many dramas with penalties in the past but we have found our solution now because it’s David’s speciality. Anyone can take a penalty but he is used to taking them and you can see that by the way he took tonight’s penalty in the 96th minute.
“It will be difficult not to play him and not to have him on the pitch, especially when we are at home, because we are the kind of side that will create opportunities to get penalties.”
