Gus Poyet praised his players' effort and highlighted how difficult the Championship is to win...
Gus Poyet believes Albion are competing in one of football’s toughest leagues to win.A meagre six points separate the play-off places and 16th place in the Championship and the Uruguayan feels that there are numerous sides in false positions.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “The league is so close and there are some teams who are not at the top, for example like us, and they should be higher without any doubt, based on performances.
“The day that it starts working for you then you win ten games in a row and go straight to the top, then the day it doesn’t work you can go five, six or seven places below.
“It is very tight, it is just one goal difference, one refereeing decision, one kick, one finish or one save that makes you win or lose a game. That is why everything you do all the time is important, not just now and then.
“I think it is one of the most difficult competitions in all the world. I have been in different countries and the most you can pick is four teams who could win the league.
“In the Championship, who is going to win the league? It is too difficult. It is good, but it is crazy for the managers because you think your team* is doing well and performing, yet the results are not right. That is how competitive it is, the league is there for anyone.”
Albion welcome Bristol City tomorrow night for the second of two home games in three days, and Poyet has urged his players to repeat the impressive performance against Bolton and have faith in the football they are playing.
“You have to balance the result with the effort and the commitment the players are showing, and with that there is not one bad word, because they have been trying everything.*
“From my point of view there is no other way to go apart from doing exactly the same. We are looking for one or two things that maybe give you something different but it is up to us to keep believing in what we do.
“As a supporter you want to see quality for the money you pay for the ticket and I think that is guaranteed here. The performance over 90 minutes against Bolton was one of the best ever against top class players.”
