Brighton & Hove Albion women’s manager James Marrs is relishing the prospect of facing Lewes on Sunday and is eager for the side to continue their momentum following a 5-0 win over Cardiff last week.

The game takes place at Culver Road, kick-off 2pm, and is the first of two back-to-back fixtures against the Rookettes, with Marrs’s side visiting the Dripping Pan on 5th April.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “I’m really looking forward to it, especially after the performance against Cardiff and I can’t wait for the players to get out there and play another game.

“Playing against Lewes adds an extra bit of spice to the occasion and we’ll be hoping to do the club proud.

“They’ve traditionally been a difficult team to beat so we’ll certainly be expecting a tough game. They will be eager to beat us, so we’re anticipating a fully-committed display by them and I wouldn’t expect anything else.

“Having two games in as many weeks gives both clubs an opportunity to assess the first match and see where they went wrong and where they can improve, but our focus is fully on Sunday and we’re hoping that we can put together a good performance and that it translates into a result.

“The aim from now until the end of the season is to try and perform a bit better in each game. The match against Cardiff last weekend was a good place to start and the performance was relatively good. We’ve still picked it apart and spoken about lots of different things which we can improve on and we’ll be working on those things this week in order to be ready for Sunday.”

“There’s still a lot of swelling and she’s been assessed every day this week.

“Hopefully the swelling goes down and then Gaby [Pimental - physio] can have a look at it and we can really assess the damage. Unfortunately it’s not looking great and there could be a considerable amount of time before she’s back playing again.

“We’ve watched the footage back from the challenge and it looks very sore and painful. It’s got the potential to be a cruciate injury, but we won’t know until it’s been assessed properly.

“The most important thing is that she’s in good spirits and has a lot of support around her from everyone inside and outside the club.”

There is free entry to Sunday’s game for all Albion season-ticket holders on production of their card and for children under-16. Otherwise admission is priced at £3 for adults.
