Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton was* left frustrated that his side are still battling relegation following yesterday’s defeat to Wigan.
The Seagulls are six points clear of the drop zone, knowing victory yesterday at the DW Stadium would have all but secured their Championship status.

He said, “The fact we didn’t get a result heaps more pressure on us and we have to accept that we’ve got to play better than we did yesterday.

“We’ve only got ourselves to blame because at 1-1 the players were buoyed by the fact we’re back in the game and it looked like we could go on and win it.

“But when the game changes and they have their moments, then you’ve got to defend well. Whether it’s against a team at the top of the league or at the bottom, you have got to defend well and we didn’t defend well enough on that second goal.

“We wanted our destiny to be in our own hands and that’s the way it should be. Now we are looking at other results to see whether they have gone for us or not, but it should be in our own hands.

“What I didn’t want to do was desperately hope that other results go in our favour, because that would mean we haven’t been able to alleviate that pressure ourselves.

“The next two games don’t come much harder than Watford and Middlesbrough, but that’s what it is and that’s the challenge.

“We’ve generally been quite good against the better teams, albeit against Norwich and Bournemouth - where we put in good performances - we ultimately didn’t win the games.”

Wigan manager GARY CALDWELL was delighted to secure a 2-1 victory over Brighton and is refusing to give up hope of completing an unlikely escape from relegation.

He told wiganlatics.co.uk, “I’m thrilled; it was a long and hard 90 minutes again and we went through all the emotions, we’re really delighted to win.

“It also give our fans something to cheer about, as it’s been a hard season for them, so that win gives them a bit of hope and kept us in with a shout. We still believe we’ve got an opportunity to stay in this league.

“At the end when they threw balls into the box, I thought the players stood up like men and our back four suddenly came alive, put their bodies on the line and that’s what we’re going to need if we’re going to be successful.

“I’m really happy for Tim [Chow]; people have doubted him and questioned him but I’ve never doubted him because I see what he does every day

“His character is there for all to see; even near the end when he was cramping up, I was leaving him on because I knew he would get through it, I’m really happy for him.

“He’s a hometown boy, been here since he was ten, and I’m delighted he can give these fans something to cheer about.”“We’ll enjoy it tonight, recover and focus again ready for next week.”
