Vitalijs Maksimenko has been back at Brighton & Hove Albion recovering from a knee injury, after spending time on loan at Dutch side VVV Venlo. The Latvian international played three games for the Dutch second division side before tearing his meniscus, and is now eager to return to Holland and make a lasting impression.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “I came back here three weeks ago after tearing my meniscus in my last game. Venlo were ready to do everything with regards to my rehab, but then Brighton called me back and said they would sort the surgery and treatment.

“It happened in a cup game; we drew 0-0 but we won on penalties. I got injured in the last minute of normal time and they went on to play extra-time without me, which was disappointing.
*
“I’m now close to fitness. I am running again and in another week-and-a-half I will return to Holland because I still have a contract there until January. I had played quite well before the injury.”

Maksimenko feels that his overall experience in Holland has been a positive one and he has enjoyed the football played in the Dutch second tier.

“The level is lower than the Championship but the style of the football is very enjoyable because they like to play it on the floor without too many long balls. It is a good experience for me and my football in general.

“The club itself has a small stadium with a capacity of around 10,000 and roughly 4,000 people turn up for each game. Everyone there is very friendly and they make the most out of the facilities which are available to them. I want to go back, get fit and try to play as many games as possible.” [h=3]ALBION V WIGAN
