We are very frustrated, we felt we did enough to get something from the game"
Nathan Jones
Nathan Jones says there was an element of misfortune to the Seagulls’ Boxing Day defeat at Charlton.
The Addicks consigned Albion to a 3-2 defeat but the London club had the woodwork and some brave defending to thank for their victory.
Jones told seagulls.co.uk, “Once we went 3-1 down we needed to score very quickly to make it a frenetic finish but we didn’t manage to do that. Their goal lived somewhat of a charmed life at times, and they put their bodies on the line, blocked shots and cleared one off the line; they grafted for their three points today.*
“If one of those had gone in then it is a different story but we scored [the second] slightly too late to mount a charge because they saw out the last four or five minutes really well without too much menace to their goal.*
“We are very frustrated, we felt we did enough to get something from the game. It was a very competitive game, entertaining, there were chances but we felt that we were not as clinical as we like to be and we weren’t as tight at the back as we have been over recent games.
“We are disappointed because we feel we came here in good form and wanted to win the game but it wasn’t meant to be.”*
Albion’s assistant head coach also applauded his former club Charlton for their display in the festive fixture adding, “They had a good game-plan, worked extremely hard and they have good players, and it showed because they showed that bit of quality and took their chances.
“It was disappointing we didn’t go on to control the game more but credit goes to Charlton.
“We are not happy with their first goal, it was a good finish from Wilson but there are things we could have done to stop that.*
“That is what happens though because whenever you concede you always feel you could have done better.”*
