Brighton & Hove Albion’s assistant head coach Nathan Jones says feet have to remain firmly on the ground, after today’s emphatic 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic lifted the Seagulls into the top six for the first time since January.
“There is still a long way to go. I know it’s a cliché but we have to keep our feet on the ground and take every game as it comes. We cannot affect what the other teams around us do, we can only affect what Brighton & Hove Albion do.
“We will continue to work hard as we prepare for another massive game on Friday. If we win that then we will have two home games here which could be really vital ahead of a very difficult last away game.
“We are going to have to keep grafting and it is a real tight end of season – but for now all we are focusing on is Friday’s trip to Huddersfield.”

Jones revealed the Albion management team told the players not to waste their good work at Leicester City in midweek by slipping up at home today.
“We made it clear that they needed to back up what we did on Tuesday with a good performance. We also wanted to reward the crowd as they have turned up in force and were magnificent again.
“We emphasised to the team that we felt they had to start quickly. We have stuttered a little bit at home and had lots of possession without really penetrating, but today we got an early goal and it was a really good start.
“A lot of credit has to go to the players because no matter what tactics you put in place, they have to go out there and do it and I thought they were excellent today.
“All of the goals were good and if I was going to be hyper critical we could say that we had opportunities to have won by a greater margin – but our performance level was very good.
“When I was at Charlton last year we came here and played in a similar fashion, got a 0-0 draw and were very happy with the point. It was important that did not happen again this year because a point would not have been good for us.”
