At his pre-match press conference, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton expressed his delight towards the addition of assistant manager Paul Trollope, analysed Fulham’s joint-top goalscorer, gave his thoughts on the loan window, and looked at Slavisa Jokanovic’s time at Craven Cottage.
Trollope's arrival: “Firstly, we’re really delighted to bring him in. I worked very closely with Paul at Birmingham and Norwich, and then obviously after that he went on to be assistant manager at Cardiff, and then manager.
“He’s an obvious choice for me because he’s somebody that I’ve worked very closely with in the past, the timing has worked out very well and it’s a transition that will be very smooth.
“He’s got big experience of different roles and we saw that during the summer, when he supported Chris Coleman with the Welsh national team.
“We’re a close-knit group here, the players are very well drilled in what they do and the way they go about their work. So in terms of disruption, we’re always able to work around it and cope.”
Chris Martin’s attacking threat: “He’s the sort of player that you don’t want to play well against you. I knew Chris [Martin] from my time at Norwich, and then he obviously moved on to have a successful period at Derby.
“He was a really big player in the particularly good period that they had, especially in the formation that they played, which Fulham are also using at present.
“What he can do is hold onto the ball really well, and he’s the type of striker that can put a high percentage of his opportunities away.
“He knows this division very well. I think it took him a little while to get into a rhythm with the team, but he’s a very dangerous centre forward at the moment.”

Loan window changes: “You adjust to what the rules are and make the most of it. When we took those two players on [James Wilson and Rajiv van La Parra], we were delighted and it was ideal for us at the time.“Everybody will get used to how the window is now, and if I look at where we are at this particular moment, if a loan window was open, we wouldn’t be looking to use it.
“It makes clubs aware that they need to be in a good enough position come the end of the summer window, or have a good enough group underneath that to supplement the first team.
“However, in the end, I think it will certainly be beneficial for teams in this division.”
Jokanovic's impact: “It’s taken a little while, which is normal. When you’re changing the dynamics of the squad, like he has done by brining in a lot of new players, that can generally take a little bit of time.
“They’re in a really good moment in the season, and obviously had a wonderful result at home a few weeks ago [v Huddersfield], scoring five goals which is very difficult in this division.
“He’s created consistency in the team and they haven’t really changed too much in recent games. That can be the key to picking up results.”
