Albion made a small piece of history at Port Vale, as Rohan Ince, Solly March and Jon Obika each opened their goal account for the club in the 3-1 FA Cup win.Tim Carder
It has been more than 110 years since three Albion players scored their first goals for the club in the same league or FA Cup game, when Mitchell, Sear and Sutherland scored in a 4-0 win over Chesham United in the Southern League in 1902.*
Club historian Tim Carder commented, "It is almost unprecedented but it is not quite a first; it is very rare and it hasn't happened in recent times.*
"There were two occasions during World War Two, with the last on Christmas Day 1941 in a 4-1 win over Clapton Orient.
“Wartime football was very different, though, and teams were often made up of unregistered guest players – sometimes even volunteers from the crowd. These games are not usually considered alongside the regular football statistics.
“It has also happened in 1908 and 1913 in two of the secondary competitions in which the club then played.”
The only other time it has occurred in league or FA Cup football was in the club’s first competitive game 21/9/1901, as Baker, Barker and Mendham all scored in a 6-2 FA Cup win over Brighton Athletic.
With thanks to club historian Tim Carder.*
