The records show it is a usually a close encounter and Albion just edge it in terms of overall victories. The Seagulls have 23 wins, Charlton have 21 while there have been 11 draws between the sides.

Albion were relegated at the end of the 1982/83 season despite appearing in the FA Cup final. Jimmy Melia was manager.Star players such as Gary Stevens and Michael Robinson were sold.
The club lost the first three games of the season, but then found some form, culminating in this thrashing of Charlton Athletic, who were unbeaten before this result.
Jimmy Case, hero of the cup run, scored a hat-trick. The side and tactics were chosen by coach Chris Cattlin. Melia was undermined and resigned 18 days later.

It was 2-1 to Albion just after half time, then 3-2 to Charlton, 3-3. Two goals in last five mins gave them victory.
Both clubs in the higher reaches of the 2nd Division. Charlton’s win took them to 3rd place and they were eventually promoted, but the start of a poor run of form for Albion saw them drop to mid table.
They later rallied and got up to 5th place and reached the FA Cup quarter-final for only the second time ever, but fell away at the end of the season, when manager Chris Cattlin was sacked.
Alan Curbishley (Charlton scorer) played for Albion 1987-90. Steve Gritt, who managed Albion 1996-98, was also in the Charlton side. Charlton had just started to ground-share at Selhurst Park.

Brighton extended their lead at the top of League One to four points after a battling draw.
The Seagulls couldn’t have made a worse start as Johnnie Jackson fired Charlton in front from the penalty spot after three minutes.
Things went from bad to worse four minutes later when Inigo Calderon was shown a straight red card following a tackle on Therry Racon.
Albion hit back to equalise nine minutes before the interval through striker Glenn Murray, who expertly hooked home Adam El-Abd's ball.
It was a gutsy performance in a memorable season that ended with the League One title.
