In the two games I’ve come in, I’ve helped keep two clean sheets and I felt that I played well enough to warrant keeping my place. "

Greg Halford is happy Chris Hughton kept faith in him following Albion’s 1-0 loss against Championship high-flyers Norwich City.

The defender has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season – and following Lewis Dunk’s return from suspension it was widely expected that the centre-back would go straight back into the team, but Hughton kept Halford in the starting eleven.

He told seagulls.co.uk, “We didn’t get off to the greatest start [against Norwich City] because it took us 20 minutes to get into the game. But we limited them to very few chances and we were happy with that. We didn’t take our chances, but we created them which was very positive.
*
“Obviously, I was very pleased [to have played]. I would’ve felt hard done by had I been out the team. In the two games I’ve come in, I’ve helped keep two clean sheets and I felt that I played well enough to warrant keeping my place.

“[Gordon] Greer is suspended for the next game having picked up a yellow card. But that’s part and parcel of the game, so I’m looking forward to the next match.”

“I’m out of contract [at the end of the season], so I’m definitely playing for my future. It’s a strange situation I find myself in because I’ve never had it before, so I’m fighting and scrapping with everyone to play as many minutes as I possibly can.
*
“It’s really unsettling to be honest, not knowing where you’re going to be next year. Playing minutes here [at Brighton] is helping because if I was sitting on the bench not doing anything it would make it a lot harder to earn a contract next year.
*
“I’m playing well at the minute and I know there’s a lot more to come. I want to win every game. As long as we win games, then the players will look good andthe future will take care of itself. But it’s just about winning games right now, so hopefully we can climb the table and finish on a high.”
