It’s always a tough game against Lewes as they will want to beat us, but we will go into it like any other game. "

Brighton & Hove Albion women forward Charlotte Gurr expressed her delight after beating league leaders Cardiff City last week ahead of a today’s Sussex derby with Lewes at Culver Road, kick-off 2pm.The victory saw James Marrs’s side close the gap at the top of the table to a mere point after second-placed Portsmouth drew 2-2 with Copsewood and Gurr believes the win has boosted the side’s confidence.

She told seagulls.co.uk, “It was important to get back to winning ways because the week before we lost 2-1 to Portsmouth, who are also right up there. We wanted to prove a point and we went back to basics.
*
“We worked well as a team; we all did our jobs well and worked hard for each other. Overall, it was a really good performance from everyone, from the goalkeeper to the strikers.”

Attention then turned today’s mouth-watering encounter with the Rookettes and an Albion win could see the side go top of the table, depending on other results.

“It’s always a tough game against Lewes as they will want to beat us, but we will go into it like any other game.
*
“We’ve been looking at things we need to work on from what happened last week and we’ve been training to get those fixed ahead of the game, so hopefully we will be able to put them into place on Sunday.
*
“There’s still a long way to go in the season as there are seven games still left to play and the top teams like Cardiff and Portsmouth still have to face each other.
*
“As long as we take one game at a time and do what we need to do, then we’ve always got a chance of winning and other teams could slip up.”There is free entry to today’s game for all Albion season-ticket holders on production of their card and for children under-16. Otherwise admission is priced at £3 for adults.
