Gordon Greer sees this season as a good learning curve for Albion's young players

Brighton & Hove Albion captain Gordon Greer believes Albion’s younger players can use this season as a learning curve.

The Seagulls have struggled to hit form in the Championship this term and having fought at the top end of the table in recent seasons, it’s been an unusual experience for many of the squad.

Greer said, “This year it’s been difficult for the younger players because all they’ve known is success here, with us pushing for the play-offs and winning the league, so it’s a new experience for them.

“It’s difficult to play football with the pressure on you as everybody is edgy. You can feel the supporters are edgy and the players on the park with you are edgy.
*
“We don’t want this to happen again but I’m sure in the future if any of them come across it, they’ll draw on the experiences they’ve had this year.”

The Scotland international went on to admit how he is hungry to finish the season on a high after a disappointing campaign for Albion.

“Since the new manager has come in we’re all looking forward. We’ve been really good in certain games and struggled away from home, but it’s about finishing the season as well as we can.

“Hopefully everything goes smoothly over the summer and we can push on next year.”

Greer believes that a settled squad is key for Albion as they aim to challenge higher up the Championship table next season.

“Every manager has his own beliefs in how he wants his team to play and to go into the new season with the same manager again will be fantastic.

“It’s continuity that we need so you’re not learning a new system and there’s not a lot of new players.
*
"There’s been a lot of changes at the club but now we’ve got stability and hopefully we can push forward to where the club should be next season.”
