Brighton & Hove Albion defender Connor Goldson is adapting well to life at the club since his summer move from Shrewsbury and believes patience is key as he looks to establish himself in the first team.

The 22-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for the Seagulls, but is confident he will be given his chance to impress in the forthcoming games.

He said, “I feel like I have settled in well. Obviously I haven’t played any games yet, but the team is flying so there is nothing I can do about that.

“I hope they can continue to fly because we’re near the top of the league and everyone is happy at the club.

“We’re 17 games unbeaten at the moment and all I can do is keep working hard to improve my game, so when the opportunity does come, which I’m sure it will do, I need to be ready.

“I understand that the team is winning games, so I need to bide my time.”

Despite waiting to make his bow in the Championship, Goldson impressed in a 4-1 victory for Albion’s under-21s against Norwich City last week and capped off his performance with the first goal for Simon Rusk’s side.

“It was good because I haven’t played a game in quite a while and it was nice to get 90 minutes under my belt.

“It’s been a couple of months since I last played a full game and I need to keep my match sharpness up.

“Fitness-wise, I felt okay, but there’s nothing like playing a game and at times you could tell that I hadn’t played in a while.”

Goldson feels that he will adjust well to Albion’s free-flowing passing style and has no doubts about his ability to make the step-up from League Two to the Championship.

“I’ve watched a lot of games now and I’m not saying that I’m better than our centre-halves because they’ve done really well, but I feel that I am as good as a lot of the central defenders in this league.

“I like to play out from the back and I have always been comfortable playing that way because it was something that I was encouraged to do at Shrewsbury. The way that we play definitely suits my game.”
