Albion put in a convincing display as they reached the Sussex Senior Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Three Bridges.Goals from Shamir Goodwin and Solly March were enough to see Luke Williams' young side through to the penultimate round of a competition they are yet to concede a goal in this season.
Albion’s Ryman Premier League South opponents stuck to their task well but in the end the gulf in quality told.
Three Bridges started brightly and looked lively going forward with Tom Rivers pulling an excellent save out of Grant Smith with his well struck half-volley.
Forward Goodwin looked increasingly threatening though and was thwarted by Jess Grimstone who was quick off his line.
Robin Deen then came close as he fired narrowly over, and Grimstone was once again on hand to deny Goodwin, keeping the striker’s near-post effort out with his feet.
But the Bridges’ keeper was unable to prevent Goodwin on the half hour as he beat the keeper to the ball, rounding him in the process before side footing past the defender on the line.
Albion continued to control the game after the break and were perhaps unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty when Yasir
Kasim was sent tumbling by Grimstone. Referee Carl Brook was not convinced and awarded a free-kick to the visitors, while booking Kasim for simulation.
Just minutes later Kasim's exquisite pass unleashed March, who found the back of the net to double Albion’s lead.
Rivers was the most likely of the Three Bridges players to find a goal, and he came close once more as he dragged a shot from 18 yards just wide.
It was Albion though who came closest to finding the next breakthrough, with Courtney Richards volleying over the bar, before Grimstone was once again at his best to beat away Kasim’s goalbound effort.
Williams' side were unable to add to the scoreline but the two early goals proved enough as they set up a semi-final clash with East Preston.
Albion: (4-3-3) Smith (GK); Barry (Peake 77), Akubuine (Cooper 77), Jones, Hunt; Richards, Kasim, Ince; Deen* (Asmundsson 77),* Goodwin, March. Subs not used: Walton (GK).
