Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Andrew Crofts has joined Gillingham on loan until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old re-joins the club where he started his career – with a recall option after 28 days if required.

He will be available for the trip to Southend today as the Gills look to close the gap on the automatic promotion places at the top of League One.

Albion manager Chris Hughton said, “Crofty’s game time has been limited in recent weeks because of the form of Beram and Dale.

“This loan move gives him the opportunity to get in some valuable playing time before the end of the season.”

Crofts, who earned a recall to the Wales squad for their upcoming international friendlies against Northern Ireland and Ukraine, has made 18 appearances for Albion this season - although he hasn't featured since mid-February.The midfielder spent nine years at the Priestfield Stadium between 2000 and 2009, before arriving at Albion for his first spell at the club.

He becomes the second player to leave the club in the loan window after Glen Rea joined Luton Town until the end of the season.
