I can only imagine what it is like having to sleep out in a town centre with a lot of people walking about when you are trying to get some sleep"
Guy Butters

Former Brighton & Hove Albion defender and club legend Guy Butters completed his task on Saturday as he slept rough in order to raise money and awareness for homeless charity Antifreeze.Butters, along with Albion’s head of communications Paul Camillin and head of marketing Tom Gorringe, spent the night in Hove with nothing more than warm clothing, a sleeping bag and a cardboard box.
Speaking on Sunday morning after completing his challenge, Butters told seagulls.co.uk, “It was a very tiring night; I don’t think I got much sleep but it is all about raising money for the charity.
“I wouldn’t want to do that again but we forget that a lot of people sleep like this every day of the week. As we are talking, it is about to start raining but these people don’t have the luxury of getting in a car and going home.
“I was with good company which helped me get through it but when I got home I was a bit stiff from sleeping on a concrete floor in the freezing cold."

The former Tottenham defender added that despite undertaking a night on the street, he still could not contemplate having to do it every night in busy city centres.“We had the luxury of being in an enclosed place, not out in the public, so I can only imagine what it is like having to sleep out in a town centre with a lot of people walking about when you are trying to get some sleep, when you just want to be left alone.
“Then there are people coming out of bars and clubs probably disturbing you so it must be an intimidating experience.
“I have had a lot of good feedback on Twitter and Facebook and to all those who have donated I just want to say thank you.*
“If there is anyone out there that hasn’t donated who has a bit of spare change or can bring some warm clothing to donate at the Fulham game, then the more the merrier.”
*Antifreeze supported nearly 800 homeless individuals last year, had their day centre accessed 7867 times and housed 62 individuals.
