Brighton & Hove Albion women’s captain Jay Blackie says she is expecting another close race for the title, ahead of today’s match against Copsewood, kick-off 2pm.The midfielder narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League Southern Division title with Gillingham last season, as Coventry made a late surge to secure top spot.
She told seagulls.co.uk, “Last year when I was at Gillingham, it was still very close between the top sides and we were swapping places with Cardiff for much of the season. Then Portsmouth became involved and all of sudden, Coventry won it.
“You never know what’s going to happen and like last year, it could go to the last game of the season; you just have to take it each game at a time and set your own targets.”
Jay expects Copsewood to pose more of a threat than on the opening day of the season when Albion secured a 3-1 victory.
“All the games are different and once you’ve played a team, when it comes to the next game they will know about how you set up and what your strengths and weaknesses are.
“I am sure Copsewood have got stronger since the last time we played them.”

Sunday’s match will be the final game for James Marrs’s side ahead of the Christmas break, before they start 2015 with a trip to face Sussex rivals Lewes on 4th January.The Albion skipper says the team will continue to train hard during the break in competitive action and will start the New Year in even better shape.
“We’re all scheduled to come in a lot over the Christmas break with lots of training and we all have our own individual plans.
“My past experiences over the Christmas period under James are that we’ll get stronger going into the second half of the season due to the amount of time we have to do fitness work.”
