Brighton & Hove Albion women midfielder Kirsty Barton is relishing the prospect of facing Chichester City in tonight’s Sussex Challenge Cup Final and hopes to create more happy memories in the competition. The 22-year-old, set to play in her fourth County Cup final, netted the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Lewes the last time Albion won the competition two years ago.
She told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s always a good atmosphere playing in a cup final on a Thursday night and we normally get a large number of supporters to come and watch the game; hopefully we can regain the cup.
“I scored in the match against Lewes two years ago which was a good feeling and as long as we get the result I will be more than happy.
“We have a massive point to prove on the night especially after what happened a year ago [Albion lost 3-0 to Chichester]; we’ve got a lot of new players though and have come a long way this season.
“It’s the last competition that we can win so we want to bring home the cup and are all buzzing for the game.”

Barton is taking little notice of the fact that Albion will be overwhelming favourites going into the match and believes these games can be more challenging.“If anything these games are harder and we know that we’ll have to work very hard on the night to get a result.
“Going into a game I don’t think about whether we’re the favourites or not because our opponents are going to be really fired up regardless.
“Our focus is to make sure we do everything possible to win the trophy.”
Admission to tonight’s game at Culver Road is priced at £4.00 for adults and £2.00 for concessions.
