Brighton & Hove Albion striker Sam Baldock is enjoying the freedom of playing out on the left-hand side, but still wants to be the main goalscorer at the club.
*
Baldock is pleased with the way he has adjusted to his new role and feels his overall game has developed under Chris Hughton’s style of play.
*
He said, “The manager is happy with me doing my work out wide at the minute and I was glad to chip in with an assist the other day. I feel like I can still come off my wing and create chances, but obviously my natural instinct is to get in the box and try to score goals.
*
“I’m still a way off from my performances in previous seasons because I’m playing in a different role, whereas in seasons gone by, I might not play particularly well but still get a goal.
*
“That’s not happened this season, so I’ve had to work on other aspects of my game.
*
“I’m not restricted to staying out wide and I feel I can offer more to the team by being able to drift around and make those striker’s runs, because I’m almost unmarked as the centre-halves don’t expect me to be there.”

The 25-year-old believes the team will be going into tonight’s game with confidence following an exhilarating 4-3 win over Birmingham, but is wary of the threat Leeds will pose after five wins in their last six games.
*
“After the excitement of Saturday, we’ve all had to take everything in and come down a bit because the adrenaline was still high after the game. It was quite a frantic and entertaining one, but we’re now fully focussed on tonight.
*
“I expect to face a team that’s full of confidence and a youthful energy. They are on the back of a few good results and have really turned their season around, so I’m expecting them to come and try to play.
*
“You can’t take anything for granted in this division; you’ve got to expect teams below you to pick up points and the teams above you to drop them to keep you on your toes.
*
“It’s a good position for Leeds to be in because they’ve got some youth coming through and they’ve got a manager in charge who’s going to give them the opportunities to play. From what I can tell, they’re going about it the right way to develop those players; it’s a massive club and it won’t be too long until they’re back where they feel they should be.”[h=3]ALBION V LEEDS
