Brighton & Hove Albion women’s goalkeeper Faye Baker spoke of her delight after taking part in two training sessions alongside Antti Niemi.Baker and centre of excellence under-15 goalkeeper Hannah Gardner were put through their paces by the Albion first-team goalkeeping coach at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.
She told seagulls.co.uk, “It’s a privilege to train with Antti. He was someone I looked up to as a keeper while he was at Fulham and Southampton.
“It was a little bit surreal training with him; I didn’t really know what to say but after the first five minutes it was fine and I learned a lot.
“He said that he was pleasantly surprised and didn’t expect us to be as good as we were, so hopefully we have impressed him a bit and shown that girls can play football."

The Albion shot stopper then looked ahead to Sunday’s long trip to Newcastle, for a Premier League Cup tie against the Magpies.“I’m looking forward to the game, as it’s another chance to go on an away trip with the girls and hopefully we can come back with a win in the bag and a clean sheet.
“I personally don’t know much about them. I’ve been looking at their results over the past few weeks just so I knew where they stand, but how they play doesn’t matter much to us.
“If we play the way we know we can, then a lot of teams will find it hard to match us.
“We want to make it six wins in a row and keep the run going for as long as possible, all the way to Christmas and beyond.
“This competition is another chance for us to win silverware. It is also an opportunity to show teams from other leagues how good we are, get our name out there and get recognised.”
