It is the complainant system in English law. It is quite a good system. However, the Police treat complainants differently. Your middle class "respectable" complainant often gets his/her complaint investigated whereas the "plebs" get a cursory mucked up investigation by junior officers (sometimes good, sometimes bad, depending on their IQ and experience). The rebound on the complainants is frequent. Most people do not make unjustified or malicious complaints. It is usually the last resort. In harassment it is usually about the hundredth time that the perpetrator that has caused trouble, that the victim goes to the biggest gang in town. The Police can see a Pigeon/Snide a mile away.

However, there are cases where a complainant has branded an enemy and ruined their lives. If they have vigilante press and social workers on their side, these snides can be very dangerous. They can act the goodie-goodie and watch the mayhem they cause from the hole they live in.

Michael Jackson got away with it, to a large extent.

He was found not guilty in a courtroom trial but we'll never find out about whether other allegations were true because of several pay offs to certain parties to maintain their silence.

'Exclusive' in The People, case dropped due lack of evidence, so another good man has had his named dragged through the mud for no reason.

And the accuser slips back into the shadows and remains anonymous, seriously flawed process.

As Michael Le Vell (Corrie's Kevin Webster) is the latest person who has to endure trial by tabloid, surely a person is innnocent until proven guilty?

Should the accused not be allowed anonymity (like the alleged victim) until they have been convicted by a court?

Didn't this used to be the case?

He has been charged with sexual assault
