As there are a number of iPod and iTunes users on here I wonder if anyone can help.

I was helping a mate install her iPod and iTunes yesterday on a Packard Bell PC, about a year old, Windows XP Home.

Once the software was installed the PC simply wouldn't start up, I tried Safe mode which worked occasionally.

Basically the computer will now not start up at all, just goes to the initial boot up screen and locks with the little revolving beads under the XP logo.

Any one got any ideas?

Apple just say that the PC must be at fault, Packard Bell don't answer their phone.

Buying an Apple is not an option as you can't run accountancy software on an Apple and the computer is used for her business.

Other than that, thanks for you suggestion.

Sorry, I was being somewhat cheeky there. What you say about Apple surprises me as there customer support has always seemed very good to me. Is it possible to remove iTunes whilst you are in safe mode? And Packard Bell not so much as answering their phone really is :censored:

The PC is a PIV with 512mb Ram, 60GB HDD so should be man enough for it.

I believe that I have now removed iTunes and iPod software, in Safe Mode and unplugged the interface cable (Firewire), trouble is I can't start the thing anymore to see if it's successfully unistalled the software.

I don't hold out much hope with packard bell even if they do answer their phone (whivh I doubt) as the computer is 1 month out of warranty.

Is there anything like a "Start Up" disk like you used to get with Win 98 etc, that I could boot the PC from, if so, how do I make one?

I had problems using the itunes disc that came packaged up with my ipod - crashed the laptop and wiped the ipod no less. I got the laptop rebuilt, installed broadband, downloaded the latest version of itunes and went from there.

Dunno if the slightly older versions of itunes are a bit unstable, or if its because it was imported from the US, but the newer UK version has run fine since.

As for fixing the PC - no idea. Mine needed rebuilding from scratch but it is getting on a bit and can be temperamental.

Do a google search for ipod forums - all kinds of techno geeks on them who are just itching to prove their cyber mettle.
